Karigaar started with one visit to a blue pottery workshop in Jaipur and a simple question: why does the person who actually made this get the smallest share of what it sells for? Everything below is our attempt at a different answer.
Every listing carries the karigar's real name and town. If we can't name who made something, we don't sell it.
Rates are discussed and agreed directly with each workshop, and published — not renegotiated downward once demand goes up.
Handmade means no two pieces are perfectly identical. We describe that variation upfront instead of photographing one flawless sample and shipping another.
Our sourcing team goes to the workshop before anything is listed. No craft is added to Karigaar sight unseen.
Every new craft we add gets the same in-person visit as the first one. That's slower than sourcing from a wholesale catalogue, and we think that's the point — it's the only way the name on the provenance card stays true.
